A former, er, "great" in the US West, Shankel's retirement means he will no longer be using this fight plan:

Since retiring, Shankel has been puttering around the gym working as a sparring partner for new fighters, equipment manager, janitor, what have you. Given this unglamorous job, and his inability to ever make much money as a boxer, his unusually large amount of wealth would seem to lend credence to Desmond Honeycomb's allegations that he's been stealing money from Honeycomb (and possibly other fighters).
