Cephus Earl comes from a long line of hog farmers out in eastern carolina. His family farm has been quite successful in recent years, even with the meddling of the US government into the hog waste complaints. But Cephus Earl missed his long time friend Greasy Zeke who had moved away to Charlotte to work at Riblet's House of Good Eatin' in the kitchen. Once Greasy picked up boxing and had been doing so well in the ring boxing for Riblet, Cephus Earl decided to come out and give it a try himself. As he has told anyone who will listen, "I used ta whoop up on ol' greasy zeke all da time. If'n he keen git up dere in ta ring, den I knows I keen git up dere an whoop up on dem city boys. Dey dont want nunna me, dey jest dont knows it yet" The two friends now share a professional spot in Riblet's stable.
