I won the title on October 21, 2000 and defended it on October 28. The next week there was no opponent within 1 rating point, so I had no fight scheduled.
My manager went away on vacation and sometime after he got back discovered that the title had been taken away and fought for by two other fighters. Ironically the fighters that ended up fighting for my championship are the two that I had beaten in winning and defending the championship. It was some sort of computer glitch.
By the time I had discovered this, the new champion had since given up the title. So when I wrote to the commission, I asked for the title to be placed back on my fighter where it rightfully belonged. I was told that they cannot designate my fighter as the current regional champ, that can be done only by a regional title fight.
So, I am going to stay in this division at least as long as it will take for me to fight for the championship again. If I get beaten, that's fine. At least the new winner will be the rightful owner of the championship. Or if I retire or move to a new level of competition after fighting for the championship again, the new champ will be legitimate.
